Among the high-performance automobiles that can call
the Nürburgring home, BMW ranks pretty high. But the fastest street-legal
Bimmer ever to lap the Nordschleife doesn't come from the manufacturer itself.
It's the AC Schnitzer ACL2.
Essentially an M235i with the engine from the M4,
the ACL2 boasts the power-to-weight ratio of a Ferrari 458 or Porsche GT3 RS.
And at 7:25.8, it just set the fastest time for a BMW around the Green Hell.
That time puts it a couple of seconds clear of the
M4 GTS, and it's not hard to see why. The ACL2 packs 570 horsepower into
Bavaria's smallest coupe, along with an adjustable Clubsport suspension,
limited-slip differential, and carbon-fiber aero kit.
Schnitzer says it will only make 30 examples available
to the public, highly symbolic of the 30th anniversary that the venerable tuner
is celebrating this year. So your chances of getting near one are rather slim,
but you can check it out in the image gallery and pair of videos below – one
summarizing the record, and the other showing the full lap.
