Maserati recently unveiled a minor facelift for the
GranTurismo but the subtle styling tweaks didn't do much to camouflage the fact
that the car was introduced over a decade ago. Thankfully the current model
won't stick around too much longer as Car Magazine is reporting a new
GranTurismo is in the works for 2020.
While ten years feels like an eternity in the world
of premium grand tourers, the delay is being chalked up to the development of a
new platform which will underpin an assortment of future models including
hybrids and electric vehicles.
Details are limited at this point but the car will
reportedly be previewed by a concept early next year. Nothing is official but
the concept is rumored to have a mixture of current GranTurismo styling
elements with features seen on the Alfieri concept.
Performance specifications remain a mystery but the
report suggests the car will have turbocharged engines and an eight-speed
automatic transmission. One source also suggested some electrification might be
in the works to help improve performance.
The range-topping model
is rumored to receive the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine from the Quattroporte
GTS. It currently produces 523 hp and 709 Nm of torque.
