Audi Sport has reached an important milestone for
its customer racing department, after delivering the 100th example of the Audi
RS3 LMS less than a year after the model’s official debut.
The 350 hp celebratory race car made its appearance
at the recent Audi Summit in Barcelona and was driven on stage by junior racing
driver Joonas Lappalainen. VW Group builds all of its TCR race cars at the
Martorell factory in Spain.
Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing
said: “We have already delivered 90 examples of our race car to customers
around the world and have received preorders up to the 100th model. We’re proud
that our entry model for touring car racing has gone down so well and that it
is already such an important pillar of our model range.”
Customer teams have already participated in 125
races on three continents, scoring 73 podiums and including 24 victories. The
TCR class has grown in popularity internationally, with 13 series already been
set up worldwide and an additional six circuit championships with classes for
TCR race cars.
