The Lynk & Co
03 sedan has now been spotted running road tests with a parts supplier in
Germany. Wearing rough prototype-spec lighting, the basic design of the
Shanghai concept is still apparent, with distinctive split upper and lower
headlights.
Changes are more evident around the back, with the
exhaust exits – now round rather than trapezoidal in shape – having been
relocated to the lower corners of the rear diffuser, instead of through outlets
in the bumper on the show car. The bootlid’s trailing edge appears to retain
the sculpted lip from before, and the distinctive boomerang-shaped tail lights
remain here as well.
The 03 sedan is expected to use Volvo’s CMA platform
which will underpin the new range of 40-series Volvos, which means its
powertrain options could be selection of Volvo’s 1.5 litre, turbocharged
three-cylinder petrol engine paired to an electric motor in Volvo T5 hybrid
configuration, plus a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder.
Given the news of Volvo’s strong push into
electrified powertrains, these can thus be expected to figure heavily into
future Lynk & Co product plans as well. Following Geely’s recent
acquisition of Proton, right-hand drive models are expected to be built at the
national carmaker’s Tanjung Malim plant.
