The European Skoda Rapid received a facelift earlier
this year. About two years from now, a successor is expected. Auto Zeitung has
previewed the 2019 Skoda Rapid with these speculative renders.
Skoda could
choose not to continue using the Rapid brand in the next gen. At 4.3 metres in
length, the 2019 Skoda Rapid would gun for the VW Golf and lure customers with
its added space and practicality, at a lower price.
The all-new Rapid takes on a more angular design with a
sharper front and rear. The renderings hint at conventional hatchback
proportions and a notably different profile, meaning the future model may look
substantially different.
The all-new Skoda Rapid will utilise the MQB
platform. It should bring the kerb weight down and prepare the car for Skoda’s
electrification plans. Conventional engine options should include 85 PS
1.0-litre TSI petrol and 90 PS 1.6-litre TDI diesel. A petrol-CNG option like
the 110 PS 1.4-litre TGI in the Golf, is also expected.
