CarToq has published images of the 2018 Maruti Swift
spotted for the first time on Indian soil. The car appears to be parked at the
cargo hold of an airport.
The example in the images appears to be that of the
JDM-spec Suzuki Swift brought in for study or demo. Visually, the car is
identical to the Hybrid SL variant sold in Japan and features a ‘Hybrid’ badge
on the boot lid. It also gets the blue accent on the gear selector which is
unique to the Swift Hybrid variant. Power comes from a 1.2 L K12C petrol engine
paired with a 10 kW Motor Generator. It has a maximum output of 91 PS and 118
Nm. One of the pictures of the interior reveals that this particular example
has an automatic transmission. According to the specifications listed on the
official Suzuki website for Japan, it features a 5-speed AGS.
The Pure White Pearl finished Swift gets projector
headlamps with LED DRLs, front fog lamps, LED tail lamp detailing and alloy
wheels. The cabin features an all-black treatment. There’s a centrally mounted
touchscreen unit, automatic climate control, and a multifunction steering
wheel.
The 2018 Maruti Swift is based on the HEARTECT
platform as the Baleno, Ignis and the Dzire. In India, it is expected to carry
forward the same set of 1.2 L K12C petrol and 1.3 L DDiS diesel engines that
power the current Swift. Unlike the JDM-spec Suzuki Swift, the Indian market is
not expected to get the hybrid tech or even the mild hybrid tech from the Ciaz
and Ertiga. However, MSIL will offer the new Swift in diesel and petrol
automatic variants with a 5-speed AMT.
The new 2018 Maruti Swift will arrive early next
year. It is expected to make its debut in India at the Auto Expo scheduled to
start February 9, 2018. Prices of the new Swift are likely to fall in the INR
5.00-8.00 lakh range.
