The BMW 8-Series is finally returning to the brand's
lineup and a new report is suggesting the coupe and convertible variants will
eventually be joined by a stylish Gran Coupe. The German
automaker will introduce the 8-Series coupe next summer and it will be followed
by a convertible variant later in the year. Several months later, the company
will reportedly introduce the 8-Series Gran Coupe in the third quarter of 2019.
Nothing is official, but the report isn't terribly
surprising as 8-Series will replace the previous 6-Series lineup which
consisted of coupe, convertible, and gran coupe models. However, the 6-Series
will live on in the form of the 6-Series GT.
Little is known about the 8-Series Gran Coupe but it
will likely follow in the footsteps of the 6-Series Gran Coupe and adopt a
stylish exterior with a low roofline and two rear doors.
The 8-Series Gran Coupe is
expected to be offered with a variety of different engines including a
3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder and a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8.
There could also be a high-performance M8 Gran Coupe with a 4.4-liter M
TwinPower Turbo V8 that produces at least 600 PS and 750 Nm of torque.
