FCA may not fit its hugely-popular Hellcat engine
into any new vehicles but that hasn’t stopped a U.S. tuner from making a Dodge
Durango Hellcat a reality.
Motor Authority reports that the owner of a 2012
Dodge Durango R/T wanted to give her husband a gift in the form of a
Hellcat-powered Durango. Knowing that Dodge doesn’t offer such a model, she
enlisted the help of Plum Floored Creations, a Phoenix tuning shop specializing
in Mopar products.
The tuners were able to drop out the Durango’s stock
engine and replace it with the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 Hellcat. However, it
wasn’t an entirely straightforward engine swap. Instead, Plum Floored Creations
was forced to replace the stock 2.3-liter supercharger with a new 2.9-liter unit
from Whipple which could be run by the standard ECU.
Elsewhere, the Durango has been fitted with a custom
exhaust system and a 6-speed ATS Stage 3 transmission with a billet input shaft
and torque converter. To help bring the insane SUV to a stop, huge 6-piston
Brembo brake calipers have been fitted up front alongside 4-piston units at the
rear. Final exterior modifications include new wheels and custom vinyl.
All up, this Hellcat-driven Durango pumps out 698 hp
at the crank and 570 hp at all four wheels.
