Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC) has announced the
introduction of a new Ford Ranger variant called the XL Standard. Slotting in
as the entry-level double-cab offering in the local T6 Ranger line-up, it’s
very competitively priced – at RM 83,588 in the Peninsular and RM 89,388 in East
Malaysia (on-the-road, without insurance), it’s cheaper than the 2.2L XL Manual
by more than RM 10,000.
The Ranger XL Standard is powered by a four-cylinder
2.2L TDCi diesel engine, the Puma ZSD-422 unit coming with a detuned 125 PS and
320 Nm output tune in this application. The mill is paired with the automaker’s
familiar MT82 six-speed manual transmission.
The exterior is pared down somewhat
on this workhorse – the most obvious identifier is the unpainted front bumper,
and the XL Standard wears steel wheels like those seen on the 2.2L Single Cab
4WD MT, making it likely that they are identical to the latter’s 16-inch units,
which are wrapped with 215/70 profile tyres.
Specifications include 4×4 shift-on-the-fly (ESOF)
and safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and three-point safety
belts across all five seats. Meanwhile, the kit list includes side steps,
remote keyless entry, a rear cargo load rest and inner/outer truck bed
tie-downs as well as reverse parking sensors. The Ranger XL Standard is
available in two exterior colours, these being Cool White and Meteor Grey.
