FCA India
President and Managing Director Kevin Flynn has confirmed that the Jeep Compass
Petrol Automatic is now in production at the Ranjangaon plant.
Although it was launched for sale, Jeep India only
produced variants of the Compass that were anticipated to garner high demand
initially; specifically the diesel manual variants. The Jeep Compass petrol
automatic is available in two grades – Limited and Limited Option. They’re priced
at INR 18.96 lakh and INR 19.67 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively.
The petrol variant is powered by a 1.4L 4-cylinder
turbocharged petrol engine which outputs 162 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque. The
base Sport variant has a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the automatic Limited
and Limited Option is equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and Jeep’s
Active Drive 4×4 System. Also available is a diesel variant that packs a
2.0-litre, four-cylinder, Multijet II unit developing 173hp and 350 Nm of peak torque.
It’s only available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Compass diesel certified
fuel efficiency is 17.1 km/L (4×2 variant).
Jeep also confirmed that a diesel automatic variant
is in the works. However, interested folks will have to wait till January 2018
to place an order for one. It will come equipped with a 9-speed automatic
gearbox. Another option under consideration is a sunroof, although there’s no
official word on when it will be available.
