The power-hungry folks over at Brabus took a closer
look at the Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet and decided that the one thing it needs
for sure is more ponies under the hood.
So they set out to increase the displacement of the
6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine to 6.3 liters, enlarged the cylinder bores,
fitted larger turbochargers, a new control system, and a bespoke exhaust
manifold, which results in a total output of 900 PS and 1,500 Nm of torque.
The convertible version of the
S-Class needs just 3.9 seconds from naught to 100 km/h, and can keep
going up to a top speed in excess of 350 km/h. By comparison, the stock
model, which is 270 PS and 500 Nm of torque less powerful
takes 4.1 sec for the 0-100 km/h acceleration, and its top speed is
electronically limited to 250 km/h.
In order to send that much power to the rear wheels,
Brabus had to modify the 7-speed automatic transmission. Moreover, the car,
which is now said to be the world's fastest and most powerful street-legal
four-seater convertible, also benefits from a high-performance limited-slip
differential, with a locking rate of 40 percent.
Other changes made to the Mercedes-AMG S65, which is
now known as the Brabus Rocket 900 Cabriolet, are the sport exhaust system with
ceramic tailpipes, 21-inch wheels, wrapped in low-profile tires, or 22-inch
available as an option, lowering module that brings the vehicle 15 mm closer to the ground, and an aerodynamic body kit.
The interior has received a few mods too, such as
the aluminum accents, scuff plates that carry the brand's illuminated logo, in
different colors, and a new digital speedometer that reflects the car's
potential by going all the way up to 400 km/h.
Brabus will display their Rocket 900 Cabrio at the
2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, from September 12, alongside the facelifted versions
of the S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet.
