Volkswagen is testing the VW T-Roc sans-camouflage
ahead of its IAA 2017 public debut. Reddit user Giantsfan107YGO spotted one
such test mule in San Francisco recently.
The VW T-Roc is a VW Golf-class SUV, and that
segment apparently is catching the attention of Volkswagen subsidiaries around
the globe. U.S. media was invited to the pre-release drive of the T-Roc. This,
despite no official announcement, puts substantial weight on the speculation of
a potential U.S. launch.
Volkswagen plans to expand its range of crossovers
and SUVs to 19 models by 2020. The VW T-Roc is the fourth model after the VW
Touareg, VW Tiguan and VW Atlas. Based on the MQB, the T-Roc is 4,234 mm long,
1,819 mm wide and 1,573 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,603 mm and offers a
boot space of 445 litres, expandable to 1,290 litres on folding the backrest of
the rear seats.
Volkswagen has announced that it will sell the T-Roc
in ten different configurations. If this model makes it to the USA, one can
expect it with turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines, i.e. the 1.5-litre
TSI (150 PS/250 Nm) and 2.0-litre TSI (190 PS/320 Nm) units. Availability of
the 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system
is a given.
