A pair of 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 prototypes
were recently spied in the midst of testing by Carscoops reader Kyle
Thoreen.Chevrolet has been testing the new ZR1 for well over a year and these
images appear to confirm previous reports that the car will be offered with at
least two different aero kits.
One of the prototypes has been fitted with a
towering rear wing which will inevitably help to stick the track-focused
Corvette to the tarmac. As for the second prototype, it has a much smaller rear
wing barely any more prominent than the lip spoiler of the current Corvette
Z06.
During recent outings at Germany’s Nurburgring, it
has become increasingly apparent how performance-focused the car will be.
There’s even a possibility that Chevrolet will look to set a sub-7-minute lap
time at the track but it’s difficult to imagine it topping the GT2 RS’s 6min 47
sec lap record.
When the 2018 Corvette ZR1 arrives in showrooms, it
is widely expected to use a new LT5, twin-turbo V8 engine with over 700 hp.
However, there remains a possibility that the supercharged V8 of the Z06 will
be retained and simply upgraded.
