Two new Modenas models which
will be launched in Malaysia in 2018, the Modenas Dominar 400 and Boxer X 150, both
single-cylinder motorcycles targeted towards to budget commuter market.
Following the launch of the Modenas Pulsar NS200, RS200 and V15 at RM 9,222,
RM 11,342 and RM 5,989 respectively, these two bikes are the latest fruit of a
collaboration between Modenas and Bajaj.
Based on the single-cylinder naked sports bike trend
best typified by the KTM Duke 390, the Dominar 400 is loosely based on the
Mattighofen machine, which is not surprising, given that Bajaj owns 48% of KTM.
Coming with Bajaj’s triple-spark DTS-i thumper, the Dominar 400 dispalces 373.3
cc, and puts out a claimed 35 hp and 35 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm.
Power on the Dominar 400 gets to the ground via a
six-speed gearbox and chain final drive, and a slipper clutch is fitted to
prevent rear wheel hop and chatter during hard downshifting. Two-channel ABS is
standard equipment, and single 320 mm diameter disc brakes are fitted front and
rear, grabbed by Bybre callipers.
On the budget end of the market is the Boxer X 150,
an air-cooled, single-cylinder motorcycle that is rated at 12 hp at 7,500 rpm
and 12.3 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. Targetted at riders who want cheap,
reliable transport for rough road conditions and unimproved surfaces, the Boxer
X 150’s engine is fed by carburettor, and uses a four-speed gearbox for power
delivery.
Both the 2018 Modenas Dominar 400 and Boxer X 150
are slated to be launched in Malaysia in the first quarter, with pricing to be
announced then.
