This marks our second look at the all-new BMW
3-Series' cabin, and it comes via a plug-in hybrid prototype, which is actually
a first. The extra "fuel cap" is clearly visible in all but one of
these images, and if that wasn't enough to convince you, you can also read the
'Hybrid Test Vehicle' markings on the side of the car something the German
government feels very strongly about.
Exterior-wise, there's not much else to point out at
the moment. Yes, the prototype is wearing its production lights, though these
were already spotted on another car back in August.
As for the interior, it's clearly the "smoking
gun" when it comes to these spy images. Not only can we see the new
digital gauge display, but we can also notice a new shifter design, much
smaller than what we're used to seeing from BMW. This could either be a
specific design trait of the next iPerformance 3-Series, or perhaps the entire
all-new 3-Series range.
Worth noting is how the iDrive wheel is positioned right
next to the shifter and not at an angle like it is on the current-generation
3-Series. Also, notice how the air vents have been dropped to steering wheel
level? On the current car, they were placed at the same height as the gauge
cluster.
Powering the next-gen G20 3-Series will be a variety
of petrol and diesel engines, joined by an electrified model or two. A
2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-pot is expected, as is an M40i version with a
3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder unit. In Europe, 1.5-liter
three-cylinder diesel and petrol engines could join the lineup.
The 2019MY BMW 3-Series will most likely see the
light of day towards the end of 2018.
