This Mercedes-AMG GT S has moved deeper into the
supercar territory, thanks to IMSA and their latest bundle of upgrades.
The tuner started working on the 4.0-liter
twin-turbo V8 engine that powers the stock model, re-engineering it, fitting it
with forged pistons, modified turbochargers, new intake, and intercooler, among
others, which resulted in a staggering 860 PS and 1,000 Nm of
torque.
Additionally, IMSA had to make sure that the gearbox
is capable of channeling this immense output to the wheels without crashing, so
they set out to modify it. Moreover, the suspension was also improved, and the
car was fitted with carbon ceramic brakes. For safety purposes, a roll cage was
added inside, which also improves its torsional stiffness.
IMSA claims that by adding certain carbon fiber
panels, such as the wings, bumper/spoiler assembly, bonnet, roof, boot-lid, and
rear wing, the Mercedes-AMG GT S is some 300 kg lighter. It now
apparently tips the scale at under 1,300 kg, which results in a
power-to-weight ratio of 663 PS per ton.
As a final touch, the vehicle now sits on 12x20-
front and 12.5x21-inch rear IMSA Racing lightweight forged alloy wheels,
wrapped in 305/30 and 315/30 Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires.
Only a limited number of the RXR (Road X-tra
Racing) One Super Gran Turismo, which is its given name, will be produced, with
the exact number to be defined, and owners will also get to select between a
wide range of paint and interior trim options to make their rides unique.
