A new Renaultsport-developed powertrain has been
added to the French brand's Megane family of compact cars. Available on the
hatchback and estate models, the 1.6-liter petrol unit develops 165 PS and 250 Nm of torque.
Power is channeled to the front wheels through a
7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which allows the compact car to reach 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds, from a standstill, before topping out at 215 km/h. The NEDC estimated combined fuel consumption is 6 l/100 km (47 UK mpg
/ 39 US mpg), and the vehicle emits 134 g/km of CO2.
Drivers can select between four modes: Eco, Comfort,
Neutral, and Sport, depending on their preferences, to enjoy the new powerplant
that's described as combining "driving pleasure with fuel
efficiency".
Renault offers this new engine/gearbox combination
on two versions of the Megane hatch: Intens and Akaju, and on the Megane Estate
Intens. Prices commence at € 29,100 (US$ 34,489) in France for the former, while
the Akaju hatch adds a € 1,800 (US$ 2,133) premium. The wagon can be had from
€ 30,000 (US$ 35,556).
