Autocar
India has shared pics of the upcoming Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20 rival
spotted testing alongside a Maruti Swift. The X451 will become Tata’s first
product based on the AMP (Advanced Modular Platform) when it arrives on the
market in 2019.
The prototype wears heavy camouflage, but the
silhouette of the X451 is still quite evident from the spy pictures. According
to the story published by Autocar India, the Tata X451 will be longer than the
Tiago by about 200 mm. However, it will be a sub-4 m offering, which will help
qualify it as a small car. Although the test mule is equipped with dummy
headlamps and tail lamps. The spy pictures also reveal a roofline that tapers
downwards towards the rear and a C-pillar mounted rear door handle.
The report adds that the Tata X451 petrol will be
powered by the Tiago’s 1.2 L Revotron petrol engine albeit with a higher
output. Diesel variants too will source their engine from the Tiago. However, a
Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) will be used to increase the power output.
There has been the talk of the upcoming Tata premium hatchback sourcing the 1.2
L petrol and 1.5 L turbocharged engines from the Tata Nexon.
The launch of the Tata X451 is expected to take
place in 2019. It will roll out of the company’s manufacturing facility in
Sanand, Gujarat. Tata Motors may even showcase a pre-production version of the
X451 at the upcoming Auto Expo starting February 9, 2018. A sedan based on the
same platform is under development as well.
