Yamaha has showcased its litre-class naked, the
Yamaha MT-10, and the middleweight sports bike, the Yamaha YZF-R6 at the 2017
Tokyo Motor Show.
The Yamaha MT-10 is the Japanese brand’s flagship
offering under the Hyper Naked motorcycle range. With the catchphrase ‘Ray of
Darkness’, the motorcycle sure looks the part with numerous cuts and slashes in
its bodywork. The bike on display sports the ‘Race Blu’ paint scheme on the
body and on the wheels. The riding position is upright, with a forward lean;
and the instrument cluster is a multifunction LCD unit.
The Yamaha MT-10 derives its engine, chassis and
suspension from the YZF-R1. The 998cc 4-cylinder crossplane DOHC engine sits
inside the lightweight aluminium Deltabox frame. Working with a 6-speed
gearbox, the mill makes 160.4 PS at 11,500 rpm and 111 Nm at 9,000 rpm.
The
gearbox features assist and slipper clutch and Quick Shifter System (QSS) as
well. Electronic highlights include traction control and a three-level Yamaha D-mode
system. The front end comes with a 43 mm upside-down cartridge type forks and

mm rear disc. The Yamaha MT-10 costs 1,674,000 Yen (MSRP) in the Japanese
market.
The Yamaha YZF-R6 is a middleweight Supersport
motorcycle. The R6 follows Yamaha’s next generation R-series design language.
The instrument cluster features an analogue tachometer with a digital
multifunction screen. The clip-on handlebars and the rear-set footpegs make for
an aggressive riding position. Electronic nannies include 6-position switchable
TCS; ride-by-wire; ABS and D-Mode.
The Yamaha YZF-R6 is powered by a 599cc inline-four
DOHC engine. It is capable of generating 118.4 PS of power at 14,500 rpm, and
61.7 Nm of torque at 10,500 rpm. The engine pairs with a 6-speed transmission
with assist and slipper clutch. The gearbox comes with a Quickshifter for
clutchless upshifts.
Cycle parts include fully adjustable YZF-R1 type
43mm front upside down forks; and a link-type rear monoshock. For the stopping
power, the R6 comes with the R1-derived dual 320 mm front discs with radial
callipers; and a single 220 mm rear disc. The motorcycle comes with a 17-litre
fuel tank and weighs 490 kg, wet.
