After making the Tiguan more affordable in the
United States last week, Volkswagen has now done the exact opposite to the
larger Atlas.
The price increase makes the entry-level model US$ 250
more expensive than before, as it can be had from US$ 31,675,
moving further away from the base Tiguan and its US$ 25,495 starting price.
Previously available from US$ 33,590, the Atlas SE now
costs at least US$ 34,765, or US$ 7,115 more than the equivalent Tiguan, whereas the
top-of-the-line trim, called Atlas SEL Premium, moves extremely close to the US$ 50,000 mark, with a US$ 49,415 starting price, or US$ 925 more than before.
Despite having to pay more for a 2018 Volkswagen
Atlas, customers won't get any new standard features, so ticking some options
from the list, such as the four-wheel drive system, panoramic sunroof, or
garage door opener, will bump the price furthermore.
Powering Volkswagen's 7-seater SUV is a
2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that develops 235 Hp and 350 Nm of torque, or a 3.6-liter V6 with 276 Hp and 361 Nm of torque.
Both units can be had with AWD.
