Jaguar has great plans for the near future,
including new SUVs and zero-emission vehicles such as the I-Pace, but the next-gen XJ is the one that will
probably go through the biggest transformation.
The British firm’s next flagship saloon is
reportedly going down the EV lane according to Autocar , with Jaguar planning
an unveil towards the end of this year. The debut will also celebrate the 50th
anniversary of the original XJ, which was introduced in 1968.
The 2019 Jaguar XJ will be underpinned by an
entirely new platform, which will be shared with a similar car-like model from
Land Rover, believed to use the Range Rover badges, and is rumored to use twin
electric motors powering the all-wheel drive system.
The same versatile architecture will support
internal combustion engines too, so expect to see more hybrids in the near
future from Jaguar Land Rover, although the XJ is less likely to become one. No
technical details have been announced at this point, but the fifth generation
of the British flagship saloon should have a range of more than 483 km, in between charges.
The brand’s design chief, Ian Callum, along with his
team, have been responsible for penning the 2019 Jaguar XJ, and it appears that
the design is now completed, being well received by insiders. Jaguar’s next
flagship saloon is expected to drop the four-door body style for a five-door
one, adopting a sloping roofline for better aerodynamics and of course, a more dynamic presence.
