Skoda has leveled up the Rapid’s safety quotient in
India by offering it with four airbags in its top in Style trim. Previously the
Skoda Rapid was available with only dual front airbags.
The Skoda Rapid is offered in three grades – Active,
Ambition and Style. The range-topping Style grade is the one that gets the
safety upgrade in the form of the addition of side airbags. The Active and
Ambition grades feature two airbags at the front as standard. ABS is also a
part of standard equipment, while Hill Hold Control and Electronic Stability
Control are available only in the Ambition and Style grades. These two grades
have rear parking sensors as well.
The Rapid is available with a 1.6-litre MPI petrol
engine and a 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 105 PS and
153 Nm of torque and sends power to the wheels via a 5-speed manual
transmission or a 6-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The diesel engine
develops 110 PS and 250 Nm of torque and is coupled to a 5-speed manual
transmission or the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. The fuel
economy rating (ARAI) of the sedan is 15.41 km/l (1.6 MPI MT), 14.84 km/l (1.6
MPI AT), 21.13 km/l (1.5 TDI MT), and 21.72 km/l (1.5 TDI DSG).
The Skoda Rapid Style petrol retails at INR
10,61,230* (MT)/INR 11,85,300* (AT) while the Style diesel costs INR 12,42,713*
