It’s hard to believe that the Audi TT is four years
old now, having made its debut at the Geneva motor show in March 2014. The
timeline makes it ripe for the introduction of a mid-life update, and our
European spy photographers have already spotted several variants of the sports
car undergoing on-road and winter tests.
It’s clear where the
bulk of the TT’s revision will be made – the front and rear bumpers. The
headlamps and tail lamps appear unchanged at a glance, but there is some
camouflaging applied to the bottom section of the former. New LED technology
for the daytime running lights, perhaps?
The most obvious redesign is done to the Singleframe
grille. Gone are the horizontal bars from before. Here, all three models (TT,
TT Roadster and TTS) seem to share a new black honeycomb grille, applied in
similar fashion as the Q2 crossover. Again, judging from the photos alone, the
overall shape of the grille remains unchanged.
The standard TT, which measures 4,180 mm
long, is sold in Malaysia for RM286,900. It packs a 2.0 litre four-cylinder
turbo, producing 230 hp at 4,500 rpm and 370 Nm of torque from 1,600 rpm. Power
is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed wet dual-clutch transmission,
allowing it to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
The hotter TTS carries a price tag of RM392,900 and
gets powered by a higher-tuned 2.0 litre TFSI four-potter, making 286 hp and
380 Nm of torque between 1,800 to 5,200 rpm. This fellow sprints to the hundred
in 4.7 seconds and has quattro all-wheel drive as standard.
