It’s been almost five months since we last saw a BMW
2-Series Gran Coupe prototype out and about, making this sighting all the more
special as the car was spotted undergoing cold weather tests in Northern
Sweden.
BMW is planning to slot the
2-Series Gran Coupe right underneath the 3-Series Sedan, which means that it
should go head to head with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLA and the Audi A3
Sedan.
Based on the next-generation 2-Series, the Gran
Coupe version is rumored to have a length of approximately 4.5 meters, which is about as much as the current 2-Series Gran Tourer model. It’s
also going to have front wheel drive, with an optional xDrive system available
for those who appreciate extra grip.
With looks, the cars do seem to have strong belt
lines, whereas the overall shape differs only slightly from what we’ve seen on
the 1-Series Sedan, launched in China earlier this year.
Since no interior shots are available, we can only
assume that the 2-Series Gran Coupe will boast a wide range of modern safety
and connectivity features such as the Parking Assistant and BMW Connected.
Powering this new model should be various petrol and
diesel options, in either four or three cylinders, mirroring what we’re going
to get on the upcoming 1-Series. A hybrid version could also make an appearance
further down the road.
