At Auto Expo 2018, a Mahindra convertible SUV
concept will have its world premiere, as per a report from Autocar India.
One would expect a convertible SUV to have a
car-like monocoque construction, but Mahindra has gone the other way round. The
company has used the Mahindra TUV300’s ladder-frame chassis for the Mahindra
convertible SUV concept. That doesn’t mean that the drop-top model will have
hints of the TUV300’s traditional SUV design, though, suggests the report.
The Mahindra convertible SUV concept measures under
four metres in length. This means that if a production version is launched, it
will classify as a small car for tax benefits. Under the hood, the convertible
SUV concept may have a version of the company’s existing engines. An upgraded
version of the 1.5-litre mHawk diesel engine that produces 101 hp and 240 Nm of
torque is in the works. Mahindra could employ this new version in the
convertible SUV concept.
Along with the Mahindra convertible SUV concept,
Mahindra’s line-up at Auto Expo 2018 should include the Mahindra U321 MPV and
the Mahindra Rexton SUV as well.
