Tempted to place your order for a new Mercedes
G-Class? The AMG G63 is the one to have. And if you order yours within the
first year of production, you could – as with so
many other new Benzes, get the Edition 1.
The debut version of Benz’s new performance
off-roader, the G63 Edition 1 is all done up, inside and out, in black with red
accents. That starts on the outside, where the Edition 1 features matte black
bodywork with dark grey graphics at the bottom.
The oversized 22-inch wheels are blacked out as
well, distinguished by red rims, hubs, and brake calipers. The black and red
appearance continues inside too, with red-stitched black leather seats, red
bolsters, and red-tinted carbon-fiber trim.
With or without the Edition 1 treatment, the new
Mercedes-AMG G63 boasts Affalterbach’s latest 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine.
It sends a mammoth 577 HP and an even more impressive 850
Nm of torque through a nine-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels
with a 40/60 front-rear torque split.
Big as it is, 4.4 seconds is all it takes to hustle
this giant brick of a beast to 60. And if you get it onto the Autobahn, it’ll
top out at 220 km, or 240 km/h with the optional AMG
Driver’s pack.
Along with a proliferation of AMG badges, the Benz
performance division’s new signature Panamericana grille distinguishes this
G-Wagen from the standard G550. Meanwhile, the three-mode adaptive dampers are
in charge of keeping this big machine planted on the road.
