These are official sketches of the Skoda Vision X,
which previews a concept car that will be shown at the Geneva Motor Show next
month. The showcar will in turn preview a compact ‘urban SUV’ that will sit
below Skoda’s Karoq and Kodiaq SUVs.
Skoda describes the Vision X as an ideal companion
for an active, urban lifestyle. The sketch
sports FlexGreen paint with a contrasting black roof, and 20-inch alloys. The
VW brand says that the X’s sharp design was inspired by traditional Czech
glasswork.
The interior of the Vision X shows a new design
language for the brand. The wide, contoured dashboard with freestanding colour
display dominates the visual impression. Illuminated elements made of cut
crystal glass in conjunction with the colour display create atmospheric
lighting effects, Skoda says.
According to Autocar, the production Vision X won’t
be based on the Fabia, but the MQB A0 platform that also underpins similarly
sized VW Group stablemates – the Seat Arona and Volkswagen T-Roc. The concept
car will propose a hybrid powertrain. The report adds that the names ‘Amiq’ and
‘Anuq’ have been trademarked, but those would buck Skoda’s SUV naming
convention starting with ‘K’.
