Toyota is the latest automaker to launch a camper
van. Based on the Proace, and converted by Wellhouse Leisure, it’s called the
Lerina, after the Lerins islands of the French Riviera. If it caught your
attention, it has a starting price of £ 42,000 (US$ 59,015 at
today’s exchange rates) in the United Kingdom.
Some of the features that Toyota says will make it a
“comfortable all-year round camping” van include the pop-up roof, which can be
fitted with an optional double bed, furniture, wardrobe, kitchen with sink and
gas hob, fresh water tank, 25-liter fridge, and portable toilet.
In addition to the generous storing spaces, the new
Toyota Proace Lerina has front seats that can be swiveled to face the rear. The
rear seats, which can be turned into another double bed, can be slid forward to
provide more loadspace as well, and as another option, the vehicle can be
equipped with two extra seats. There’s a 100W solar panel and leisure battery
to provide it with power, along with a 2.2kW heater, and other options such as
the side awning with LED lighting.
Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels,
power folding side mirrors, color TFT multi-info display, sat-nav, DAB radio,
cruise control, air conditioning, and others. The campver van is powered by a
2.0-liter turbodiesel engine. The unit comes in two outputs: 120 PS with
a six-speed manual gearbox, and 180 PS with an automatic transmission.
Customers can already order the Proace Lerina from
nine Toyota dealers in England, Wales and Scotland, with more joining in.
