Triumph Malaysia has launched the 2018 Triumph Bonneville Bobber Black and the 2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster, both priced at RM 79,900, as well as the Tiger 800 adventure bike range. The 2018 Triumph Tiger 800 comes in five variants – the base XR at RM 56,900, the XRx/XRx Low at RM 69,900, the XRt at RM 77,900, the XCx at RM 74,900 and the top-of-the-range XCa at RM 81,900, with all prices including GST, but excluding road tax, insurance and registration.

The Bonneville Bobber Black and Speedmaster extend the range from the original Bobber launched two years ago. Now coming with a 16-inch front wheel and twin disc brakes with Brembo callipers, the Bobber Black exhibits a muscular look, while the Speedmaster exhibits a cruiser vibe and two-seater functionality.

This differs from the original Bobber, which came with a 19-inch front wheel and single front brake disc, and fork size has also been upgraded to 47 mm diameter Showa units, from the previous 41 mm forks. Also new for 2018 on the Bobber Black and Speedmaster is LED lighting all round.

Another difference between the Bobber Black and the Speedmaster is the foot controls, which are mid-set on the Bobber Black, and forward-set on the Speedmaster. Carrying Triumph’s 1,200 cc High Torque parallel-twin, the Black and Speedmaster have a claimed 77 PS, a 25% increase of the 2015 Speedmaster, and a 10% increase over the current model Bonneville T120.

Torque is claimed to be 106 Nm at 4,000 rpm, a massive 42% jump from the previous model Speedmaster, and a 10% upgrade over the T120. The Speedmaster comes with a slightly larger 12-litre fuel tank, and single-button cruise control is standard, along with ride modes and ABS.

There are three colours for the Speedmaster – Jet Black, Cranberry Red and Fusion White/Phantom Black, while the Bobber Black comes in any colour you like, provided it’s black. There is also an extensive accessories catalogue containing over 130 items for the Speedmaster and Bobber Black.

While there are five models in the range, six if you include the XRx Low variant, for Malaysia, two of Triumph’s adventure bike range are available immediately – the Tiger 800 XRx and XCx. While outwardly resembling the previous generation Tiger 800, Triumph has made over 200 changes to the Tiger’s chassis and engine.

The triple mill now makes 95 PS at 9,250 rpm, and 79 Nm of torque at 7,250 rpm, and with the exception of the base model XR with throttle cable, all Tiger 800s come with ride-by-wire. New for the Tiger 800 series is a TFT-LCD instrument panel, similar to the unit used in the Street Triple 765 RS.

Now coming with LED headlights with cruise control carried over from the previous generation, both the XR and XC get a five-position manually-adjustable windshield. Traction control is now standard with riding modes, and in the top-end XCa, six ride modes, including an Off-Road Pro mode that switches off all riding aids.

Higher-end models in the Tiger 800 range come with fully-adjustable WP suspension, the lower range using fully-adjustable units from Showa and Brembo brakes are fitted as standard. Other modern conveniences include heated grips and seat, two-position adjustable seat which places the rider at 810 – 830 mm for the XRx and 840 – 860 mm on the XCx.
