Nissan has confirmed the upcoming 2019 Altima as the third model in the U.S. lineup to feature their ProPilot Assist semi-autonomous technology. The sixth-generation Nissan Altima will be revealed in full at the New York Auto Show on March 28.

Nissan’s ProPilot system keeps the vehicle centered in its lane and can navigate stop-and-go traffic and maintain a set speed, as well as a set distance to the vehicle ahead, always under the supervision of the driver.

The new Nissan Altima was previewed by the Vmotion 2.0 concept in 2017 and is expected to feature a sportier exterior design and the latest iteration of the company’s V-shaped front grille.

The interior will follow the same theme, featuring a cleaner dashboard, a high transmission tunnel and a tablet-like display for the infotainment system. Room for the passengers is also expected to grow, especially for the ones sitting at the rear.

As for the available powertrains, our own intel tells us that base models will get a reworked version of the existing 182 hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which will also be offered with an optional all-wheel drive system. The larger 3.5-liter V6 will be replaced with the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that debuted in the Infiniti QX50 and features a continuously adjusting compression ratio, between 8:1 for maximum performance and 14:1 for increased efficiency.

The new 2019 Nissan Altima is expected to be offered with a CVT transmission only. Stay tuned for the full reveal of Nissan’s new mid-size sedan.
