The next Seat Leon will become VW Group’s first
model to host their all-new infotainment system when it arrives in the market
in summer 2019. This new infotainment system will feature a modern user
interface and have the ability for over-the-air updates. In fact Seat (and VW
Group) is so confident about the usability of their new system that they will
migrate most of the physical buttons over to the screen, including the climate
controls.
The new infotainment system will be used across the
Group’s lineup but Seat was put in charge of development in order to appeal to
its younger customer base.
The fourth-generation Leon will also feature a
striking design, accompanied by the Group’s upcoming 48-volt mild-hybrid
powertrain that uses the 1.5-liter TSI at its heart. It’ll still be offered
with a five-door hatchback body but the styling will “not be a typical hatch".
Seat is also planning to spawn a new crossover out
of the Leon, a new niche model that will sit between the hatch and the Ateca
SUV, set to create another new sub-segment. The three-door bodystyle will be
dropped completely while the high-performance versions will be offered under
Seat’s new Cupra brand.
