Consigned to RM Sotheby’s for its
upcoming auction in Fort Lauderdale is one such art car, painted by British pop
artist Ben Levy.
It’s based on a Ferrari – one of
three painted by different artists for the 2015 Art Basel festival in Miami.
But it’s not just any Ferrari. This is a Ferrari race car. An F430 Challenge,
to be specific – the model that served as the backbone of the Prancing Horse
marque’s spec racing series from 2007 through 2010. By 2015,
it’s racing career over, it was handed over to Levy for the special paintjob.
As you can see, it’s plastered in words of different
colors, covering the black bodywork. Underneath it sits the same 4.3-liter V8
as the road-going version, producing the same 483 horsepower and 343 lb-ft of
torque. But its exhaust system, suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, and cockpit
are all specific to the racing model. In fact it was the first Ferrari sports
car to employ carbon-ceramic brakes.
It’d make for one heck of a track toy, in short, or
a brilliant display for the lobby of an office building or private mansion. If
you have just the use in mind, it’s anticipated to sell for US$ 120-160k the
Broward County Convention Center in less than a month from now.
