In presenting the new Senna GTR at the Geneva Motor
Show, McLaren labeled it a “concept.” But it didn’t wait any longer
than that to proclaim that it would put the track-bound hypercar into
production. Limited production, that is, at just 75 units. But even if you have
the cash to buy one, you can’t. Not because they’re only available to existing
Senna customers, but because they’ll all been sold already.
This despite a price tag reputed by top US$ 1.4
million. For all that scratch, the GTR will upgrade on the (ahem) “standard”
Senna with a stiffer suspension, more aggressive aero, and what you can sure
will be a stripped-out cockpit with racing shells and harnesses.
No word on powertrain, but you can rest assured the
4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 will produce at least as much as the road-going version’s
814 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. It’s also said to get a “race-style”
transmission, but we don’t know if that’ll be a retuned version of the road
model’s seven-speed dual-clutch unit, or possibly the six-speed sequential from
the 650S GT3 racer.
It looks like the P1 GTR with its hybrid
powertrain may finally be knocked off its perch as the ultimate McLaren track
car yet. Shame we can’t have one.
