The 2018 Maruti Wagon R was spied in Shimla
recently, courtesy Speedhounds. It looks like Maruti Suzuki is conducting
high-altitude tests with this prototype. The next-gen Maruti Wagon R will
feature an evolutionary design. Proportionally it does not look all that
different from the model currently on sale. The “tall boy” design will continue
through the next generation. The spy shot shows that the redesigned model
having a large windshield and oddly designed large windows. Also, it hints at
featuring swept-back vertical headlamps similar to those of the JDM-spec Suzuki
WagonR Stingray.
The all-new Maruti Wagon R will likely arrive as
Maruti Suzuki’s most economical model underpinned by the light and rigid
new-generation platform “Heartect”. The new generation model will have
structural enhancements to meet the new safety norms set to become applicable
next year. MSIL may offer the 2018 Maruti Wagon R with an updated version of
the K10B 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 68 PS and 90 Nm
of torque in the current Maruti Wagon R.
The next-gen Maruti Wagon R may go on sale in Q4
2018 (October-December 2018), during the festive season. It is expected to
arrive after the facelifted Maruti Ciaz and the next-gen Maruti Ertiga.
