The Honda Civic Type R is one of the better
affordable options when it comes to driving pleasure. Honda sure knows how to
work its magic when it comes to hot hatchbacks and if you can get past its looks,
it’s an impressive machine. For enthusiasts that have been waiting to see how
easy the hot hatch is to tune, Hondata has just answered your questions.
Hondata (via Road & Track), a California-based
tuning company that has turned even the most tepid Civics into hopped-up
vehicles, has gone to work on the Civic Type R. The company announced the specs
behind its latest tuning package for the hot hatch and the figures are
impressive.
The company’s FlashPro kit costs US$ 695 and gives
Civic Type R owners the ability to choose from multiple maps based on their
modifications. For owners that don’t have any modifications, you’ll still be
able to see some improvements over a bone-stock vehicle.
As Hondata’s dyno test reveals, when running on 91
octane, the FlashPro kit adds 33 horsepower and 39 pound-feet of torque. That’s
a tidy increase over the base Civic Type R’s output of 306 hp and 292 lb-ft of
torque. Make the switch to 93 octane and the hatchback now gets an increase of
47 hp and 72 lb-ft of torque.
For owners that have access to E25 fuel, the
FlashPro kit provides an even larger power bump. When running on the ethanol
fuel mixture, the kit will add an additional 58 hp and 78 lb-ft of torque With
47 more horses, the Civic Type R would be slightly more powerful than the
350-hp Ford Focus RS. Those are impressive gains from an ECU tune and we’re
really interested to if the extra power changes how the Civic Type R feels
