A new prototype of the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 has been
snapped undergoing testing in the north of Sweden. As with previous prototypes,
this example teases a selection of styling modifications which will adorn the
finished model.
The most obvious point of difference between the
next GLE 63 and the current model will be the inclusion of the firm’s now
customary Panamericana front grille, visible beneath the camouflage in these
spy shots.
The updated model will wear an aggressive
front fascia, tweaked headlights, taillights, and a revised front fascia. Power
for the ‘regular’ GLE 63 should be provided by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8
delivering 563 hp. Those looking to show off at the pub will have the option of
purchasing the GLE 63 S, complete with a 603 hp version of the same engine. For
those AMG fanatics out there, you’ll know that these horsepower figures are
identical to the E63 and E63 S.
To ensure that the hefty SUV can slow down as fast
as it accelerates, AMG engineers will fit a set of huge brake calipers and
discs. More-than-adequate tires will help to ensure blistering accelerating and
deceleration performance too.
When it launches, the GLE 63 will act as an
alternative to models like the next X5 M, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and Range
Rover Velar SVR.
