Cadillac has revealed the new CT6 V-Sport for the
first time at the New York Auto Show. The new 2019
Cadillac CT6 V-Sport isn’t just the new flagship of the CT6 family, but it’s
also the first model to adopt the all-new twin-turbo V8 engine.
Cadillac says the powerplant is a clean-sheet
design, with the twin-scroll turbochargers nestled inside the vee of the engine
for less turbo lag and more compact packaging. The new 4.2-liter V8 produces an
estimated 550 hp and 850 Nm of peak torque.
The company also said that a 500 hp version of the
same engine will also be offered with the non V-Sport CT6. The new twin-turbo
V8 is currently exclusive to Cadillac, but chances are that it will appear on
other future GM models in the next few years too. The engine’s compact
packaging, along with older rumors, makes it a strong candidate for the
upcoming mid-engine Corvette C8.
The new V8 is paired with a 10-speed automatic
transmission and sends its power to all four wheels. The chassis of the new CT6
V-Sport also features a mechanical limited-slip rear differential and a
specially tuned Magnetic Ride Control suspension.
Other highlights include a new infotainment system,
with Cadillac saying that it’s the most advanced interface they’ve ever
offered. The system uses a 10-inch 1080p display and promises an intuitive
operation, better voice recognition and snappy responses. It’ll also be able to
receive over-the-air updates.
Cadillac hasn’t released yet any performance data
for the new CT6 V-Sport.
