The Range Rover Velar in these pictures may look
like any other but in reality, it is a prototype for the upcoming Velar SVR. There’s very little indication
that this vehicle is the performance-focused Velar. One reason for this is the
SUV’s lack of a production-spec bumper or the quad tailpipes we have come to
expect from high-performance Range Rover models.
Styling tweaks will also be made to the front with
revised air intakes, a modified bumper, and a new grille. With all these touches
applied, they’ll be absolutely no mistaking the Velar SVR for lesser versions.
Set to take the fight to the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and
Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, the Range Rover Velar SVR will feature the
brand’s familiar 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine producing at least 542 hp. To
ensure that the vehicle handles like a proper performance SUV, Range Rover
engineers are set to make serious upgrades to the chassis, suspension, and
braking systems.
Range Rover is tipped to reveal the Velar SVR this summer
before sales initially kick off in Europe.
