At a media conference in Brazil, Volkswagen
confirmed that it would launch an entry-level crossover to compete with the
Honda WR-V and Chevrolet Onix Activ. The company was
referring to the next-gen VW Cross Polo.
The sixth-gen VW Polo has had a GTI variant from the
get-go, but the ‘Cross’ variant has yet to make an appearance. Contrary to
expectations, the arrival of the VW T-Cross would not mean the demise of the VW
Cross Polo. The all-new VW Cross Polo will slot below the T-Cross. Volkswagen
could name it the VW Polo Alltrack to differentiate the brands.
As in the speculative renderings here, the next-gen
VW Cross Polo will feature an outdoorsy look. The crossover variant could get
its distinctive styling with silver skid plates, black cladding around the
lower body, unique alloy wheels, ORVM housing in silver or black colour and
silver roof rails. It should have a raised suspension for increased ground
clearance and bigger rims.
Volkswagen could launch the VW Polo Alltrack in
Brazil after the VW T-Cross, sometime in 2019.
