Undisguised prototypes of the facelifted 2019
Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and ZL1 1LE have been spied while being transported
through Las Vegas. A member of the Camaro 6 forums stumbled upon a
fleet of prototypes on a transport truck and as expected, the changes over the
current ZL1 models are minimal. In fact, the cars appear nearly identical,
other than the new headlights and taillights and the unique wheels used.
Additionally, the ZL1 1LE snapped features a rear
wing significantly smaller than what’s found on the existing 1LE model. It
remains to be seen if this low-rise wing will be the only option on the 2019
1LE or if it will be offered alongside the larger wing that already exists.
Since being unveiled in April, the refreshed Camaro
has caused a lot of controversy among enthusiasts with many being critical of
the new front and rear fascias. In particular, the taillights have raised a lot
of eyebrows and rightfully so; they look strange.
Chevrolet will probably leave the 2019 ZL1’s
powertrain untouched. If that’s the case, the same supercharged 6.2-liter V8
engine will be used, delivering an equal 650 hp and 881 Nm of
torque. As such, the pony car should be capable of hitting 96 km/h in
3.5 seconds while running the quarter mile in 11.4 seconds at 127 mph (204
km/h).
We should see the 2019 Camaro ZL1 and ZL1 1LE in
showrooms before the end of the year.
