FCA has prepped a number of updates for the 2019MY Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. In a couple of
teasers released today, the North American company has partially revealing the
biggest change: a pair of hood scoops, inspired by past models.
The new parts, described as a “dual-snorkel hood” by
FCA, replaces the single piece found on today’s models. Moreover, it’s a
throwback to the “distinctive Mopar design themes from some of its most famous
muscle cars”, says the automaker, referring to some vehicles made in the
mid-60s and early-70s, although we do remember some Pontiacs offered with dual
hood scoops.
With the new elements in place, the 2019 Dodge
Challenger SRT Hellcat doesn’t only look “more sinister”, but it gets “maximum
air intake to the supercharged powerplant”, claims FCA. Speaking of the engine,
it’s unknown whether the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine will remain the
same for the 2019MY. Still, with 707 hp and 881 Nm of
torque, it’s not like it lacks power.
Those looking for more can always turn to the more
extreme Demon. But they’ll have to look on the used car market, as the 840 hp and 1,044 Nm of torque beast won’t make a comeback in
the 2019 model.
It’s hard to spot other visual updates compared to
the current lineup, but the refreshed Hellcat could very well benefit from
other work, too. However, we’ll just have to wait until “this summer” to find
out exactly, as that’s when “more information will come”.
