The Mercedes E-Class is entering the 2019 model year
in the United States with a host of improvements including new technology and
an upgraded engine lineup. First and foremost, there’s a new E450 variant that
will be available as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. The model features
an upgraded twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 362 hp and 500 Nm of torque. Compared to the E400 it replaces, the
E450 packs an additional 33 hp and 20 Nm of torque.
Another new addition for 2019 is the Mercedes-AMG
E53. It features a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine with EQ Boost
technology which enables the model to produce 429 hp and 520 Nm of torque. In the E53 Sedan, it enables the all-wheel drive
model to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.
Besides the six-cylinder engines, the 2019 E-Class
sedan can be equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 241
hp and 369 Nm of torque. Additional changes are
limited but the E-Class lineup has a new three-spoke multifunction steering
wheel wrapped in Nappa leather upholstery. Customers will also be able to order
to two new interior trim options.
Other updates include newly available packages on
the E-Class sedan as well as a new 19-inch AMG wheel design. Mercedes also said
the 2019 E-Class lineup will have “enhanced safety systems” and “route-based
speed adaptation which uses a substantially broader scope of map and navigation
data to more safety navigate different driving roads and situations.”
The 2019 Mercedes E-Class family will go on sale
this fall and pricing will be announced closer to launch.
