The fourth generation SEAT Leon is in development,
and new pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together. According to
Autozeitung, the Spanish compact car won’t only get a new exterior design and
underpinnings, but a larger footprint as well. It’s too early to talk about its
size, but its wheelbase is said to welcome an extra 50 mm, reaching
2,686 mm, resulting in more legroom on the rear bench.
In addition to a new infotainment system, the car
will also get a digital instrument cluster as an optional extra. Moreover,
Amazon Alexa is also said to be integrated, allowing users to control various
functions of the vehicle via voice commands. SEAT might provide ‘over-the-air’
software updates for the next-gen Leon, from 2020, so owners won’t have to
drive to the nearest dealership to enjoy the latest available gizmos.
Powering the VW Golf’s Spanish cousin will be an
assortment of three- and four-cylinder petrol engines, including a 1.5-liter
unit, said to deliver between 130 PS and 200 PS. A
1.0-liter TSI, with 115 PS and 200 Nm of torque is
expected to make its way into the range, alongside a 2.0-liter rated at over
300 PS in the Cupra model.
A compressed natural gas (CNG) variant will likely
be offered in the new-gen too, alongside a possible fully electric derivative
and at least one mild-hybrid option. Diesel engines aren’t going anywhere just
yet, apparently, as the 2020 SEAT Leon will reportedly adopt several
four-cylinder oil burners when it debuts, next year.
