It’s been a year since Porsche begun
testing their facelifted 2019 Macan SUV on public roads, and now the prototype looks almost completely undisguised. Initial
prototypes featured light camouflage, somewhat obscuring our view of the
vehicle’s headlight and front bumper design. The rear end on the other hand
represents the major prize for camera wielders, where the taillights remain a
mystery.
If you squint really hard, there appears to be some
type of tape covering the area between the two light clusters at the rear, so
until Porsche unveils the car, showing us that it doesn’t have a full-length
light strip, we’ll just hold out hope that it will – it would make the Macan
look more modern.
Mostly though, the exterior design on this prototype
isn’t very different compared to that of the current car. In front, we can see
that it has a different bumper, new grille and altered headlights, but the
differences really do seem negligible, in the sense that they don’t alter the
personality of the Macan at all.
Like with the new Panamera, Porsche’s 2019 Macan
could also feature the automaker’s new PCM system, high-res touch-sensitive
displays, high-end audio systems, plus a whole bunch of other new equipment
options, as well as new materials, trim levels, wheels, fresh colors and so on.
Then there are the new driver assistance features,
such as Night Vision Assist, Lane Change Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and
Traffic Jam Assist – these are all available on the 2018 Cayenne and could
trickle down to the updated Macan as well. As for power units, Porsche has kept
a tight lid on any rumors, but we still expect a plug-in hybrid version to join
the regular petrol and diesel-powered models.
The 2019 Porsche Macan is on track for its debut
sometime later this year, when it will resume its battle against the rest of
the world’s premium compact SUVs.
