These are the very first images of Ford’s all-new
Kuga/Escape crossover, wearing a production body as well as heavy camouflage,
both on the outside as well as inside the cabin. Still, it’s a definite step up
from our previous run-in with the car, which involved a chassis mule, one that
obviously looked nothing like the final product.
The upwards
sweeping design of the shoulder line, reminds us of the all-new Ford
Focus. There’s also a height difference between the front fender and the side
of the bonnet, which is also seen on the Focus. Thus, we expect the front
fascia design to make the new Kuga/Escape instantly recognizable as a
modern-day Ford. As for the rear, not much can be seen, apart from the bulky
taillights that protrude towards the fender panels.
While the infotainment display is mounted at the top
of the center stack, it’s not quite the same design as you get in the Focus.
Underneath it, you find various radio and infotainment controls, so we can only
assume that the climate controls are positioned somewhere between the console
and the radio.
Altogether, the next-generation Kuga/Escape should
feature more interior room, higher quality materials, as well as modern active
safety and convenience features such as Wi-Fi hotspot, FordPass Connect,
Pre-Collision Assist, Active Park Assist 2, Blind Spot Information, Evasive
Steering Assist and more.
The new crossover is expected to be available with
various forms of electrification, where a plug-in hybrid variant seems quite
likely if the automaker is to meet its target of launching 24 PHEVs by the year
2022. Other engine options should include EcoBoost petrol and in certain
markets, EcoBlue diesels as well.
The all-new Ford Kuga/Escape is said to arrive
sometime in 2020.
