Opel is trying to lure you away from other
subcompact hot hatches with the all-new Corsa GSi. Following hot on the heels
of the recently launched Insignia GSi models, the latest member to join the
Corsa family sports a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine rated at 150 PS and 220 Nm of torque.
The unit is married to a six-speed manual gearbox,
said to have been optimized for winding roads, and allows the car to hit the
100 km/h mark, from a standstill, in 8.9 seconds, and a top speed of
207 km/h.
The new Opel Corsa GSi won’t break any speed
records, but the performance should prove to be enough for the driver to
explore the chassis. Moreover, the warm version of the Opel Corsa returns a
combined fuel consumption of 6.2-6.3 l/100 km (46-45 UK mpg / 38-37 US mpg) and
CO2 emissions of 143-147 g/km on average.
Sitting on the same chassis as the OPC version, the
Corsa GSi promises “outstanding handling and short brake distances”, especially
when ordered with the optional 18-inch alloy wheels, shod with 215/40 tires.
Elsewhere, the warm supermini model stands out
thanks to its sporty exterior design, which features larger air intakes, a
sculptured bonnet and modeled side sills. Opel says that the roof-mounted wing
“creates additional downforce”, while the sporty chrome tailpipes contribute to
its unique stance.
The PSA-owned brand has yet to release images with
the interior of the car, but it gets optional Recaro seats, sports steering
wheel, leather wrapped gearshift knob and aluminum pedals.
