Kia would be expanding on the Ceed family, by adding as many as three new versions, possibly even an SUV. One of the versions that has been confirmed is this, a stylish Fastback of sorts, which should give the entire Ceed range a significant style boost.

These mark the very first spy images of a Ceed Fastback prototype and despite the heavy camouflage, there are quite a few things worth noting about it. If you look close at the i30 Fastback, it’s evident that Hyundai focused on a rear design that’s more sporty than it is elegant. On the Ceed prototype, the rear end seems a little bit less rakish, with possibly more room between the rear axle and the tailgate.

Other design cues include the somewhat sporty side skirts, the fake exhausts, the very aggressive 18-inch wheels, and taillights that seem to resemble those found on the hatchback, rather then the BMW-like ones on the Estate.

Inside, this new Ceed version should be identical to the 5-door and Sportwagon, meaning having a floating-style infotainment display, plus high-end features such as heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging for smartphones with the Qi standard and loads of modern driver assistance systems.

As for its engine range, it should mirror that of the regular Ceed, which means 1.0-liter and 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol units with 120 PS and 140 PS respectively, plus the 1.6-liter CRDi diesel, with either 115 PS or 136 PS.

While it’s possible we might see the new Kia Ceed Fastback/Shooting Brake at this year’s Paris Motor Show in October, a 2019 reveal can’t be ruled out.
