Exciting things are coming from Volkswagen,
including a plethora of new internal combustion vehicles and a selection of EVs
that look set to shake up the industry. Auto Motor Und Sport reports that the
German automaker will introduce no less than 17 all-new vehicles between now
and 2024, excluding the recently-announced, updated Touareg.
Kicking off the brand’s expanded range will be two
highly-anticipated models, the T-Roc R and Arteon R. Both should offer
exhilarating performance and compete at the top of their respective segments.
Later this year, a Tiguan Coupe is set to launch as
a more premium alternative to the standard Tiguan. It will be offered with a
2.0-liter TSI delivering 220 hp and a more powerful 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel
with 240 hp. A facelifted Passat is also just around the corner, and will be
shortly followed by a new baby in VW’s SUV range in the shape of the T-Cross.
Based on the Polo, the T-Cross will get a number of
three-cylinder, 1.0-liter engines as well as a 1.5-liter four-cylinder offering
150 hp and a two-liter TSI with 200 hp. Small 1.6-liter diesels are also on the
cards.
After these new models, the eighth-generation Golf
will land in early 2019 and just a few weeks later, be joined by the
all-electric I.D. hatchback. Pricing for the I.D. is expected to be similar to
a new Golf diesel and its presence in VW’s range means the outgoing e-Golf will
be killed off.
As VW continues to roll out I.D. models, potentially
as many as four more by 2024, the brand will also offer customers new petrol
and diesel vehicles. Included among these will be the Golf 8 Estate, Golf GTI
and VW Arteon Shooting Brake. Additionally, the new VW T7 will arrive at
roughly the same time in late 2019, and in 2020, the VW Golf R
will launch and mark the introduction of a refocused and more extreme R
performance brand.
