This is a 1974 Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce, also known
as the 2000 GTV. It replaced the older 1750 model in the early 70s, featuring
increased engine displacement, a new grille, smaller hubcaps and significantly
larger rear lights.
Some say it’s one of the most beautiful two-door
coupes ever built, which automatically makes you one of the most interesting
people around if you just happen to show up driving one at a car meet or at a
get-together with your friends.
According to the Bring a Trailer ad, this Alfa has
underwent a lot of “revitalizing” procedures, such as having its 2.0-liter
four-pot rebuilt and its interior overhauled. Other changes include the
upgraded brakes, custom shocks, new paint and a set of GTA wheels.
The only things wrong with it are the minor
corrosion on the front grille, rock chips around the front bumper and another
chip on the driver-side rear view mirror. Niggles, really, that can easily be
shorted out if they bother you too much.
Inside, the seats have been reupholstered with black
leather matching the original pattern, and a new headliner was installed along
with wool carpets. As for the twin-cam 2.0-liter inline-four engine, it shows 127,138 km and was rebuilt by Normal Racing, who installed Bosch
pistons, a new exhaust system and a Shankle air box. While there’s no telling
how much power the car produces now, when it was new, it put down around 130
horses, which wasn’t bad considering how it only weighed around one tonne.
At the point of writing this article, the highest
bid was US$ 15,000 and there were four days left until the auction closes. We
wouldn’t say that US$ 15k is a small sum, but if you love classic Italian cars
with a rich pedigree, this could be a relatively affordable way (compared to
the sky-high prices some exotics command) to get into that exclusive club with
a nicely restored Alfa.
