The
McLaren 600LT has been scooped testing on the Nordschleife. Bear in mind that
the hardcore Sports Series’ official name remains unknown. Some suggest it will
be 600LT, while others that it’ll be named the 595LT.
These images reveal that the
track-focused machine will benefit from a host of modifications to distinguish
it from the 540C, 570S, and 570GT. These changes start at the front and include
an overhauled fascia with a new bumper, custom splitter and aerodynamic fins
that channel air into the large intakes. Move to the side and you’ll notice
enlarged air intakes behind the doors and a fin stretching off the skirt and
ending at the rear wheel arch.
The rear features even more modifications. There is now a fixed rear wing and a set of exhaust pipes that exit at the top,
straight out of the engine. This design should not only make the 600LT sound
absolutely wicked, but they can also be used to channel hot exhaust gases over
the rear wing in order to create additional downforce. Completing the exterior
modifications is an enlarged rear diffuser.
Behind the aero alterations, the new Sports Series
model’s twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine will be modified to deliver an output
close to 600 hp. Additionally, adjustments will be made to its transmission as
well as steering and braking systems to make the car even more capable on a
racetrack or a twisty mountain road.
This will be McLaren’s second hardcore production
model to wear the ‘LT’ badge, following on from the highly-praised 675LT. It
remains to be seen if production of the 600LT will be limited and if an
open-top version will follow, in the vein of the 675LT Spider.
The car will be unveiled online on June 28th before
premiering at the Goodwood Festival of Speed that takes place on July 12-15.
